A labourer and father of seven children barricaded himself in a room and threatened to set it on fire days after a drug trip ended with him being revived by paramedics, a court has heard.
Patrick Paul Habermann, 38, pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday to possessing dangerous drugs and obstructing a police officer in relation to a series of offences over a three-day period in December 2023.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Vicki Kennedy-Grills told the court that at 9.20am on December 1, 2023 police responded to a disturbance at a Bundaberg address, including reports of Habermann “yelling and screaming” and being possibly drug affected.
On arrival police found Habermann was “heavily under the influence”, unable to stand and unresponsive to the police officers’ attempts to communicate with him.
Queensland Ambulance Service units were called, whose paramedics administered first aid to Habermann and determined that he had taken the illegal drug GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate).
After being revived, Habermann admitted to taking the drug and said he had gone to hospital a week earlier after also taking it on that occasion.
A later search of the address found a quantity of the drug the Bundaberg Australian Border Force office confirmed was GHB.
A few days later, on December 4, Habermann had borrow his mother’s car in order to obtain some uniforms for a new job the court was told.
After returning the car to his parents’ address later that evening, Habermann refused to give back the keys when they asked.
His parents then told him he no longer had permission to stay with them.
Habermann then went into a room within the house and refused to leave, barricading himself in by pushing furniture up against the door.
Habermann’s parents called police and several officers arrived at the scene, with one of the officers asking him to open door.
Habermann told police to “f--k off and let me sleep”, telling them he had flammable liquids and a lighter in the room and would “light it up” if police broke in.
Police eventually did just that, arresting Habermann.
Habermann’s defence lawyer, Rian Dwyer, told the court Habermann had seven children aged between three and 21 years of age, and had worked as a labourer, a fencing and landscaping contractor and in the mines.

Magistrate Edwina Rowan sentenced Habermann to six months imprisonment with immediate eligibility for parole, taking into account 119 days served in pre-sentence custody.
Habermann was convicted of one count of possessing dangerous drugs and three counts of obstructing police officers.
