Alarming proposed bail conditions were put up by a defence lawyer for a man accused of two counts of stalking – the second one allegedly committed while on bail for the first, a court heard.

Michael Christopher Chick made a bail application in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on December 23 after being charged with the second count of stalking.

Police prosecutor Leon Casey said Mr Chick was charged with the first stalking offence on July 25 and Mr Chick was accused of contacting not just the stalking victim, but a former partner of his as part of his offending before the court.

Defence lawyer Felicity Davis put to the court a number of proposed bail conditions, including living with his parents at Monto, not to have access to firearms “given there’s allegations about firearms” she said, and not to use “social media or dating applications at all” as the allegations also involved him using those as part of the how he stalked his victim and her family.

Ms Davis said Mr Chick’s parents’ residence was 200kms from Bundaberg.

Mr Casey said the victim was previously in a relationship with Mr Chick.

He said there was camera phone footage of Mr Chick allegedly following the victim in a vehicle and he had a history of not obeying court orders and bail conditions.

Mr Casey said there were concerns Mr Chick would reoffend and interfere with witnesses.

Acting magistrate Paul Byrne refused bail, remanded Mr Chick in custody, briefs of evidence were ordered and Mr Chick’s charges were adjourned to February 1o in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court.
