A 22-year-old Bundaberg man has avoided a recorded conviction after police found more than 3g of pure MDMA in his car.
Jaxyn Allan James Dorante pleaded guilty to one count of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing something used in the commission of a crime in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on November 16, 2023.
Prosecutor Leon Casey told the court the unemployed young man had been driving a Audi sedan in Bowen Hills on December 8, 2022 when he was stopped by police at 5:30pm.
“He (the police officer) observed the car was full of smoke and there was a strong odour of cannabis,” he said.
Dorante admitted there was some “MD” otherwise known as MDMA, in the centre console, the court heard.
“During the search police located a clip seal bag with brown powder inside,” Mr Casey said.
“The amount that was found was 14.44 grams, they also found the digital scales,(he) said he used these to weight the MDMA.”
Mr Casey told the court a police certificate analysis revealed the drugs amounted to 3.49 grams of pure MDMA.

Legal Aid lawyer Thomas Bray appeared for Dorante and told the court his drug use had only ever been recreational and he was taking medicinal marijuana for an injury which had limited his working opportunities.
“He does acknowledge the drug use in the past was primarily recreational … he does say he stopped using MDMA basically because he had become too regular and noticed his emotional state fluctuating, which is not surprising.”
Dorante was studying IT in the hopes of finding work, and was waiting to hear back from an recently lodged job application, Mr Bray said
Magistrate Edwina Rowan condemned the amount of drugs found in his possession.
“What does concern the court is that it was a very significant quantity of MDMA that was found on you, the pure quantity even of itself was quite a large amount but there is no commerciality alleged,” she said.
Dorante was placed on two year’s probation and no convictions were recorded.
