A fisherman has lost his licence after being picked up for drug driving after using drugs at a party.

Callan John Williams pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of driving with a relevant drug in his saliva.

The court heard Williams was pulled over at 12.45am on March 30 while driving on Wyllie St.

He participated in a roadside drug test which returned a positive result and was taken to the Bundaberg Police Station for a secondary test.

The test at the police station was also positive.

Williams’ lawyer Gavin James told the court his client was a fisherman who had recently returned from sea and was due to leave again that afternoon.

Mr James said his client had been at a party before he was pulled over where he used the drug which came up in his system.

Mr James said the boat his client was working on was moored in the Sunshine Coast and he had been driven to court by a friend who was also driving him back.

He said his client had a relevant history and had learnt his lesson when it came to using drugs and driving.

The court heard Williams was last before the court three years ago for something “far more serious”.

Williams was fined $500 and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for three months.

Convictions were recorded.
