A former Bundaberg barber who once made a TikTok video urging people not to do drugs has appeared in court from custody after being busted with cocaine, LSD and marijuana.

Douglas Jan Gleeson appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court via videolink on December 20 where he faced five drug-related charges.

Police prosecutor Steven Baso told the court officers had carried out a search warrant at 7am on August 4, where Gleeson admitted having drugs in the home.

He led police to a shopping bag under his bed containing 900g of marijuana, plus a tin box that had 13g of cocaine, several squares of LSD and $600 in cash.

A glass bong was also seized.

The court heard Gleeson had a criminal history, including a charge for trafficking cannabis in February 2020.

Lawyer Matt Messenger told the court his client had a challenging upbringing, and both his parents served in the army.

Gleeson pleaded guilty to three count of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing used drug utensils and possessing suspected proceeds of a drug offence.

Magistrate John McInnes said Gleeson’s reoffending was less serious than the matters that previously landed him before courts.

Mr McInnes took into account 117 days of pre-sentence custody, but did not declare it as time served as it was relevant to a suspended sentence.

Gleeson was sentenced to eight months’ jail, suspended for 15 months.
