David Leslie Brian Harrison pleads guilty to wearing Rebels OMCG item in public

A young man, arrested for a fashion accessory fail, has fronted court and it soon became clear his bizarre behaviour wasn’t over yet.

Wearing a custom leather vest featuring a ‘westside’ hip hop hand gesture, a man faced court on Friday, pleading guilty to wearing a Rebels OMCG item in public.

The court heard on October 8, David Leslie Brian Harrison, 19, was walking down Bourbong Street wearing a blue jacket with a Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang insignia pin that could be seen.

Police confiscated the vest and pin.

Harrison looked proud and signalled hand gestures in the air while the court heard he took the pin as a trophy after assaulting a Rebels OMCG Member.

The police prosecutor described the offence as “an act of absolute stupidity” and stated Harrison was currently on probation for other offences including common assault.

Lawyer Gavin James told the court Harrison was currently on a Centrelink benefit and didn’t know it was illegal to wear OMCG paraphernalia in public.

“The police spoke to Mr Harrison and told him that kind of material cannot be worn,” he said.

“He wasn't trying to circumvent the laws in regard to this and he was happy to hand it over.”

Magistrate McGarvie took into account Harrison was only 19 and had never committed an offence of this nature.

Harrison was fined $750, referred to SPER and a conviction was recorded.

Hours after his conviction, NewsMail reporters witnessed Harrison parading down Bourbong Street wearing the leather vest and carrying a flag, both with the ‘westside’ hip hop hand gesture on it.
