Fraud, stealing charges against Christine and Michael Owens dismissed

The trial of Michael and Christine Owens has ended with all charges against the business couple being dismissed.
A Section 700 Certificate of dismissal was issued in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 17, dismissing all charges against the pair.
According to the Criminal Code of Queensland a Section 700 dismisses all complaints against a defendant and bars any “further prosecution of the accused person for the same cause”.
Mrs Owens had been charged with two counts of fraud by way of dishonest application of property subject of trust, direction, condition or on account of another by director or member of a governing body, one count of stealing by director or officers of companies and one count of breach of bail.
Mr Owen had been charged with one count of fraud – dishonesty application of property subject of trust/direction/condition on account of another by employee and one count of stealing by clerks and servants and one count of breaching bail.
On Monday, April 15, the duo pleaded not guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court to the charges which related to their management of two Bargara resorts between 2012 and 2020.
Then, on Wednesday, a Section 700 Certificate of dismissal was issued in relation to all the charges.
