Bundaberg police check hundreds of vehicles in crackdown on the Fatal Five

A 43-year-old Oakwood man is due to face court, charged with driving while intoxicated. It’s just one outcome from hundreds of roadside checks carried out by Bundaberg police.

Bundaberg police have targeted the Fatal Five by carrying out 428 roadside breath tests and 16 roadside drug tests in Moore Park.

Part of Operation Tango Shutterbug, the initiative targeted speeding, drink and drug driving, seatbelt use, fatigue and distraction.

During the two-day operation, police conducted a total of 428 roadside breath tests (RBTs) and 16 roadside drug tests (RDTs).

Out of these tests, there were three drug driving offences and one drink driving offence detected.

A 43-year-old Oakwood man was charged with driving under the influence and is scheduled to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on July 8.

A total of 14 traffic infringement notices were also issued for life endangering offences such as speeding, fail to give way to vehicle when entering roundabout and fail to give way to vehicle at a give way sign at intersection not roundabout.

The Mobile Police Facility van was utilised during the operation providing residents with an opportunity to speak with police regarding any concerns.

The majority of concerns from residents focused on hooning offences in the area particularly Murdoch’s Road, Club Avenue and Malvern Drive.

The Bundaberg Road Policing Unit have acknowledged these concerns and will be targeting these areas.
