A man hitchhiking from Bundaberg to Bargara was subjected to a terrifying and violent ordeal that ended in him being stabbed and hit with a car.

The District Court at Bundaberg heard Bianca Jade Hagart Todd and co-accused Kyle William Kelly picked the man up in their car and offered him a lift on the night of June 29, close to midnight.

According to the facts read out in court, Todd was high on drugs and driving when Kelly pulled a knife on their victim.

The victim tried to take the blade away from Kelly, cutting his hand in the process.

The victim was told to hand over his bank card and PIN, and when Kelly realised the incorrect number had been given, he sliced the victim’s hand.

Todd and Kelly then drove the victim to an ATM and demanded cash. When he tried to flee, Kelly stabbed him deep in the shoulder.

With the injured complainant attempting to get away, Todd drove at him twice, hitting him on the second occasion.

Judge Katherine McGinness told Todd, 33, she was lucky the victim’s injuries had not been more serious.

“His body went over the bonnet and windshield before hitting the ground. How fortunate was he and you that no serious injury occurred?”

The victim eventually ran to a nearby house and called police.

He suffered a fractured hand and cuts to his wrist and shoulder.

In sentencing, Judge McGinness refereed to a victim impact statement which had been tendered to the court.

“It cannot be forgotten what that complainant had to endure and what he still suffers,” she said.

Todd, appearing by videolink, said she had aspirations of getting her life on track and studying hairdressing.

She pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery in company, one count of wounding and one of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

For armed robbery in company, Todd was sentenced to three years, for the count of wounding she was sentenced to 18 months, and for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle she received a two-year sentence.

Todd was given a parole release date of September 10, 2022, so she could start on rehabilitation.

Todd’s co-accused, Kyle William Kelly, was sentenced on October 17, 2019 where he pleaded guilty to a total of 24 charges including deprivation of liberty, robbery with actual violence, stealing, fraud, unlawfully wound another and driving without a licence.

He was given a head sentence of six years and 10 months imprisonment with a parole eligibility date of June 30, 2021.
