Gary and Anne Cross call for inquest into death of Michael Cross

The parents of a Bundaberg man, whose death was ruled a suicide, have called on the Attorney-General to launch a fresh probe amid claims their son met with foul play.

Michael Cross showed no signs he was about to take his life, according to his parents Gary and Anne.

In fact, they say the 30-year-old was a rising rodeo star, happy dad and caring partner.

That's why it was beyond their comprehension that the young dad would be found dead in a South Bingera shed on January 11, 2016.

The Cross parents, who believe police investigated on the premise Michael’s death was not suspicious, are calling on the Queensland Attorney-General to allow a fresh probe.

They told the ABC that injuries such as a black eye suffered by their son before his death seemed unusual and also noted the lack of a suicide note.

Police who worked on the case however, argue Mr Cross had been researching suicidal ideology the day before his death.

“We are calling for the Queensland Attorney-General to hold a Coronial Inquest as we believe our son was murdered,” the Crosses told the Bundaberg NewsMail.

“The Attorney-General has the power to order an inquest.”

The granting of a Coronial Inquest would follow two coronial investigations, which both found Mr Cross had died of suicide.

The Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman confirmed she had received correspondence from the Cross family and was seeking advice on the case.
