A Bundaberg man has had his internet purchase end with a court date.

Beau Daniel Jones ordered an extendable baton from the Chinese online gadget store Wish, known for its range of cheap and eclectic items.

But the self-confessed “martial arts enthusiast” soon found out how illegal the item was when he was charged with possessing tainted property and possessing a restricted item.

Appearing in Bundaberg Magistrates Court before magistrate Trinity McGarvie on Monday, Jones pleaded guilty to both charges.

Ms McGarvie took into account Jones’s early plea of guilty, lack of criminal history and his understanding now that the item was restricted.

He was fined $300, deferred to SPER.

No conviction was recorded.

The weapon was forfeited to the Crown for destruction.
