A Gaynah man has been charged following an alleged attack on a real estate agent on Friday October 7, 2022.

Real estate agent Peter Mattson was finalising eviction paperwork with a tenant when the client began throwing punches at Mr Mattson.

Mr Mattson said his dealings with the tenant had previously been relaxed, with the issues surrounding his tenancy ongoing for more than a year.

“It was a calm and rational conversation until it wasn’t,” said Mr Mattson.

Now still nursing head pain, Mr Mattson said the incident made him worried for the safety of his family and his co-workers.

“We haven’t attended any of the events we normally attend,” he said.

Mr Mattson said community support following the alleged attack had been overwhelming.

He said he hoped the court process offered a fair outcome.

Mr Mattson moved from Sydney to Gayndah four years ago, and said the community had been welcoming and problem free until now.

The real estate agency owner said counselling was provided to staff members.

“Incidents like this have far reaching consequences beyond the person that is immediately affected,” he said.

Police were called and the man was apprehended.

The man was due to face Gayndah Magistrates Court on November 11, 2022.
