Bundaberg woman Venessa Connolly is calling on the community to help her fund a fitting tribute to her brother David Connolly, who was murdered less than a kilometre from his home in Brisbane in late January.
Mr Connolly, 43, was stabbed to death in the up-market inner-Brisbane suburb of Wilston on January 22, 2023.
Police said he was found “collapsed” in the early hours of the morning on Newmarket Rd, with critical injuries, and died at the scene.
His sister has created a GoFundMe to help raise money for a headstone dedicated to her brother, so that he may rest alongside their mother.
Politicians speak out on deadly roads needing action now
“His life was taken way too soon,” Ms Connolly said in her GoFundMe.
“Had David been found early he may... still been here with us.”
Ms Connolly hopes to raise $3000 towards the funeral costs and headstone, “as David will be placed with our mother and it would be nice to get a new headstone with both my mother‘s name and brother’s name on it”.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested over Mr Connolly’s death after he was stopped by police while carrying a 45cm knife, described as a “small machete”.
Ms Connolly has shared her appreciation for any funds she can put towards her brother’s final resting place.
“From the bottom of my hearts, thank you for all the love and outreach in support - it will most grateful appreciate (sic),” she said.
