Vodafone has announced a network expansion to be rolled out January 30, across the Wide Bay.

Vodafone has promised to improve mobile phone coverage in the Wide Bay by rolling out a network upgrade of 51 new mobile sites in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

Bundaberg will get 23 new sites, Hervey Bay 11, and Maryborough 17.

Vodafone’s move aims to break the long-standing cellular ‘dead zones’ many regional users have put up with for years.

A Vodafone spokesperson said in a press release on Tuesday the expansion was designed to “shake up the mobile duopoly”, bring new competition, and make Vodafone’s mobile plans available to new parts of regional Australia.

The network boost aims to increase Vodafone’s mobile coverage from 400,000 square kilometres to more than 1 million square kilometres.
