A major change is underway for popular Bundaberg region ice creamery Mamminos with new ownership revealing they are shifting the business to the Sunshine Coast.
News of the relocation was revealed by the company in a media statement announcing the sale of the 29-year-old business to new owners.
The statement said Australian industrialists and friends Laiju Devassy (John) and Sani Thomas took over the reins of Mammino Gourmet Ice Cream on March 20, 2025.
As a result of the sale the duo – both Sunshine Coast residents – have chosen to shift the company to Landsborough due to “challenges posed by the current location in Childers”.
The these included “logistical constraints and workforce availability”.
“This move ensures better access to key raw materials, as Mammino sources Maleny Dairy products, Ginger Factory ingredients, and Nutworks supplies,” the statement said.
“Establishing operations closer to these suppliers will enhance efficiency and sustainability, supporting the company’s long-term growth.”
The shift south meant retailers may experience temporary shortages as the company moves its factory and machinery.
May 1, 2025 was expected to be the new reopening day.
A new home was not the only change in the works, either.
The company was also planning expanding into the New South Wales and Victoria markets.
This will include hiring more staff and importing new equipment from Italy.
Mamminos was founded at Childers in 1996 when Anthony and Teena Mammino started selling macadamias at a roadside stall.

It became a booming business when they added the nuts to a family ice cream recipe, and established a long term home about 2km outside Childers on Goodwood Rd.
Mr Laiju and Mr Thomas have a more than 45 years experience in Australia’s industrial sector, the statement said.
Mr Laiju’s experience included working in electronics, tourism, food, and health, and Mr Thomas’s background extended across marketing, food, and transport.
