Loved ones have worn flannelette shirts to the funeral of a father of three who tragically died on a Bundaberg Sugar cane farm near Childers last month.
Lachlan Francis died in a farming machinery incident on a sugar cane farm on Alfs Rd about 8.10pm on May 21.
A funeral was held for Lachlan today, June 4.
To honour his memory, most attendees wore flannelette shirts.
A eulogy was read with memories of many family members included in it and the gathering heard of Lachlan’s love of machinery from a young age.
“Kepnock High would ring me saying Lachlan was absent, but I never worried. I knew he would be at Fix It Auto Wreckers getting parts for bikes and cars,” Lachlan’s mother Judith said.
Lachlan’s father, Greg, reflected on their bond.
When Lachlan was five years old, he went to a sound check for a gig with his dad, and Greg remembered Lachlan sitting at the table clapping with wide starry eyes and “a grin that could be classed as a lethal weapon”.
“Lachlan was hooked and went on to be a drummer himself,” Greg said.
Britt, Lachlan’s sister, expressed her connection to her brother.
“They say a girl’s best friend is her father, but whoever said this didn’t have a big brother like Lachlan,” she said.
Lachlan and his brother Jack were best mates.
The gathering heard that Lachlan taught Jack how to work on cars, helped him get his licence and taught Jack “what it truly meant to be a strong man”.
A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesman said the investigation into Lachlan’s death continued.
