Visitors to Moore Park Beach on Sunday, September 11, 2022, reported seeing a hammerhead shark after noticing a dorsal fin among playing dolphins.
“We was standing on the dune, dolphin spotting at the beach 4wd access spot when we saw a couple of dolphins close to the shore,” one of the visitors said.
“Then we saw a dorsal fin of what looked like a hammerhead dorsal and the dolphins were staying with it all the way until it went further away from the shore.”
Moore Park Beach is one of the few beaches in the Bundaberg region without a drum line.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries has encouraged all swimmers in the area to be Shark Smart and follow these safety tips:

R – Reduce your risk by avoiding swimming in schools of fish.
K – Keep fish waste, food and bait out of the water where people may be swimming.
