Guides and visitors to the Elouera Campsite at Mon Repos will be cooking up a storm with a newly renovated kitchen.
Girl Guide Elouera Campsite president Katrine Rayner said the federal Stronger Communities Program grant to upgrade the kitchen was a real boost for the not-for-profit organisation.
“It takes a lot of fundraising to be able to upgrade our facilities, so the Stronger Communities Program has meant we could get the work done sooner to make it more usable for guests and visitors,” she said.
“We get around 800-900 guests a year and with travel restrictions eased and the upgraded amenities we hope to see that number increase.
“The campsite is located on a 485ha reserve and is walking distance to Mon Repos beach and the Mon Repos Turtle Centre.
“We have a bunk house, leaders bedroom, room for grass camping, the full equipped kitchen as well as under-cover dining, a barbecue area and a campfire circle.”
The Elouera Campsite was opened in the 1960s after Guides Queensland were given a recreation lease by the State Government.
Incumbent Hinkler MP Keith Pitt visited the campsite recently.
“Guides Queensland received a $13,990 grant to upgrade the kitchen at Elouera Campsite which has hosted numerous school groups, youth, disability and community groups,” he said in a statement.
“It’s a fantastic facility for community groups and the new kitchen included a stainless-steel benchtop and new cupboards, which is important for safe food preparation,” he said.
