O.G. Christopher to face court on five charges from Kinkuna beach crash

A man will face court on multiple charges relating to the horror Kinkuna beach crash following a “protracted and convoluted” police investigation.

A Brisbane man has been charged with five offences related to a 4WD crash at a beach party in June 2023, which left a Maryborough teenager critically injured.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said a 22-year-old Alexandra Hills man was charged with offences related to the Kinkuna beach crash, including one count of setting fire to vegetation, wilful damage, possessing dangerous drugs, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, and obstructing police.

Queensland Courts said O.G. Christopher, born March 10, 2001 would face Cleveland Magistrates court in the first hearing of these charges on December 18, 2023.

The charging of Mr Christopher is the culmination of an investigation which QPS Forensic Crash Unit officer Senior Constable Phil Peereboom described as “quite protracted and convoluted” following the crash at a party at Kinkuna beach on the evening of Friday, June 30.

Maryborough teenager Mia Selby, who was celebrating her 18th birthday on the night of the crash, sustained critical injuries including a fractured spine and extensive internal bleeding from the crash and was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for lifesaving surgery after being put into a medically induced coma at Bundaberg Hospital.

Ms Selby is still undergoing rehabilitation after fighting for her life in hospital for weeks following the crash.

Police reports released immediately following the crash said the Ford Ranger Mia was travelling in rolled “several times”.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, Charlotte Stanton-Bovis and three other passengers apart from Ms Selby, also required medical treatment, including 29-year-old Anthony Cougle who was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious back injuries.

The update into the police investigation comes soon after 17-year-old Boyd Cronin was killed in a motorcycle crash on Coonarr Beach, a short distance north from Kinkuna Beach, on Saturday, December 9.

Acting superintendent and district officer for Wide Bay-Burnett, Inspector Paul Algie, said Mr Cronin and a 20-year-old Bundaberg North man who sustained serious leg and arm injuries were on a camping trip on the beach at the time of the crash.

Insp Algie said increased police operations in Kinkuna and Coonarr Beaches had resulted in 18 people being charged with 33 serious criminal offences in 2023.
