Many young couples dream of hosting their wedding at a vintage winery, though only one couple in Australia can say they held their wedding at Bundaberg Rum’s world famous distillery.
On Valentine’s Day 2023, Australia’s favourite rum called on all Bundy-loving couples to enter a competition to be selected for the ultimate Bundaberg Rum ‘holy matRUMony’ wedding.
Riddells Creek couple Brooke and Jake Mallon were selected from more than 600 couples and made the long trip from Victoria to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery for their wedding ceremony.
Every inch of the ceRUMony had a touch of Bundy magic, from the white and yellow flowers down to the Bundaberg rum Can-deliers decorating the venue.
Cupcakes and biscuits were decorated in edible Bundy Bears, and the drinks of choice were Bundaberg Rum cocktails.
Surrounded by 40 of their nearest and dearest, the brave couple handed every inch of the wedding planning over to Bundaberg Rum fans who selected the outcomes on all the big decisions including the dress, food, flowers and the couple’s haircuts.
Despite looming rain clouds, the event went off without a hitch, with Brooke and Jake saying “I do” in the museum’s theatre, decked out with flower arrangements, yellow petals, and a shaggy white carpet for its guests.
The pair said their family and friends were thrilled to be a part of the Bundaberg Rum experience, and had travelled the long road from Victoria to Bundaberg to visit the distillery many times over the years.
“(Bundaberg Rum) was my dad’s drink of choice, at every family event there was a bottle there,” Jake said.
When asked about how it felt to sacrifice the planning on one of the most important days of their lives, Brooke and Jake said the were initially shocked to be selected but ultimately thrilled with the outcome.
“I was happy with the social media choices, but I was excited either way,” Brooke said.
“I don’t think there has been a disagreement about the wedding,” Jake joked.
Dressed and prepared by fans, the couple were married in matching white outfits adorned with Bundaberg Rum embellishments including Bundy Bear nail polish, mini Bundaberg Rum bottle earrings and necklaces, bow tie pin, bundy bear printed sash and fluffy white shawls.
Marketing and Experience Manager Duncan Littler said the idea was unique and encouraged hundreds of thousands of Bundaberg Rum fans to engage with the wedding planning, and admitted the fans were “kind” to the young newlyweds when selecting the big details.
“Well, the fans have been incredibly nice to Brooke and Jake, and have also made this incredibly interesting,” he said.
