Witnesses have given an account of a shocking assault on an elderly man by a gang of youths near a popular Bundaberg beach.
It comes as footage of the “eshay” attack emerged on a Bundaberg Facebook forum.
An anonymous commenter to the forum said they saw an alleged assailant they described as a “young delinquent eshay” attack a “senior man” in front of his wife at Kelly’s Beach in the coastal suburb of Bargara.
The commenter said a passer-by intervened in the alleged assault and restrained the youth until police officers arrived.
Video of the alleged assailant captured by another witness shows three shirtless youths milling around in what appears to be a car park on the Esplanade near Kelly’s Beach.
In the video, one of the youths jumps aggressively towards the camera with raised fists, saying “come on c--t, do you want to f--king go?”.
The youth then appears to slap the camera, at which point the recording ends.
Another commenter said the same youths had been “causing trouble and abusing families” in recent days, and encouraged any witnesses to report them to police.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed there was a “disturbance” at Kelly’s Beach on January 8 around 5.40pm.
Attending officers reported minor injuries were sustained by the alleged victim, but no medical treatment was required and no other emergency services were called to the scene.
The spokesman said no charges have been laid in relation to the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
