Bundaberg records massive rainfall totals as wet weather hits the region.

Bundaberg has been inundated with rainfall totals comparable to those seen during previous major floods.

Several roads around the Bundaberg region remain closed after the region was lashed by torrential rain on Thursday night, with more than 190mm falling in some parts in just 24 hours.

And more is on the way.

As of 10.30am Saturday, QLD Traffic’s website said a number of roads including Moore Park Rd, Goodwood Rd at Elliott and Kinkuna, Fingerboard Rd near Miriam Vale, Bucca Crossing Rd, and Lowmead Rd were all closed due to flooding.

On Friday morning, a frequently busy Goodwood Road was completely inundated with water before the school rush, with part of the road now closed near Yellow Waterholes Creek due to localised flooding.

Parts of Booyal Crossing Road, Three Chain Road, Bucca Crossing Road, Rosedale Road, Moore Park Road and Kalpowar Road were also closed.

Bundaberg received a whopping 192mm of rain overnight while Bundaberg South recorded the second highest rainfall total with 188mm.

Meanwhile, coastal suburbs also felt the wrath of mother nature over the past 24 hours with 101mm recorded at Bargara and locals waking up to water rushing over the road at the causeway.

BOM issued a minor flood warning for the Kolan River on Friday as the Bucca Weir was expected to rise to the minor flood level, but minor flooding is no longer expected for the weir.

Meteorologist Dr Helen Reid said the region could see further flooding as the Burnett River also continued to rise.

“The river is below minor flood levels,” she said.

“The hydrology team are continually monitoring rainfall and run off with flooding at various lotions a possibility.”

More rain and thunderstorms are expected today and through the weekend.

Heavy rainfall is possible but conditions are likely to ease mid next week.
