Flash flooding in Bundaberg, Moore Park as heavy rain lashes the region

According to forecasters at the Bureau of Meteorology, the 24-hour rainfall total at Moore Park Beach was 201mm, with Bundaberg receiving the second highest total of 132ml.

A BOM spokesperson said the amount of rain that fell over the past 24-hours between Bundaberg and Moore Park was unique.

“It was so localised to that one area that the rest of the falls were around the 20‘s to 30’s,” the spokesperson said.

The downpour triggered a road closure at Moore Park Road at Welcome Creek between Booyan Road and Croome Creek Road, stranding motorists making their way into the Bundaberg CBD.

“My best friend and I are graduating today but she lives out at Moore Park and is stuck there!!!” one Facebook user said.

Flooded-in residents also took to social media as their driveways copped the brunt of the deluge.

“This is why we can't get out and have water in the house! It hasn’t stopped pouring,” another Facebook user said.

Higgins Storm Chasing put out a warning on Facebook about the possibility of further flooding.

“The storm is currently stationary over Burnett Heads, Welcome Creek and Moore Park. Further dangerous flash flooding is likely,” the post read.

The QLDTraffic website is reminding motorists not to drive through flood waters.
