Bundaberg Cricket Association has been forced to empty its pockets after thieves broke into the Kendall Flat’s canteen on Saturday September 3.
Thieves pried the door open with a crowbar to gain access to the canteen, and reportedly helped themselves to two cartons of Bundaberg Rum and Coke.
The window was also targeted, with a security screen ripped back from its mounting.
The Association has resorted to placing a metal plate across the door to prevent further break-ins.
Association president Mat Fleming said the break-in was a major disappointment as volunteers poured hours into keeping the association going.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and the last thing we want them to do is to have to worry about the silly and opportunistic actions of others,” Mr Fleming said.
“For someone to do this to a local sporting club full of hard working volunteers is just downright disrespectful.”
The Kendall’s Flat site plays an important part in the Bundaberg Cricket Association, hosting a number of games and social events each year.
“Kendall’s Flat plays a very big part in our cricket season every year,” Mr Fleming said.
Media officer Monique St Clair said police were in the process of investigating the break-in.
“Anyone with information is being urged to contact police,” she said.
