Branyan man arrested following spate of thefts, break and enters

A 28 year old Branyan man has been arrested following extensive investigations into a spate of thefts and break and enters in the Bundaberg region.

A 28 year old Branyan man has been arrested by Bundaberg Police following an extensive investigation into multiple property crimes dating back as early as December of last year.

The man has been charged with multiple offences including stealing, wilful damage, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and six counts of enter premises and commit indictable offences.

Investigations began following reports of a stolen car from a West Bundaberg business December 23, 2022.

“The man was allegedly in possession of the vehicle until January 6, when the keys were located during a search warrant executed at a property along Takalvan St,” police said in a public statement Wednesday morning.

It is alleged the man used this vehicle while committing “a number of property related thefts in the Bundaberg area”.

One such theft was an attempted robbery of a Bargara Shopping centre ATM, in the early morning of January 1, 2023.

Reports given at the time of the incident state “a vehicle was used to smash into a shopping centre on Bargara Rd”.

“Thieves then attempted to remove the ATM, however this failed, but they did manage to steal some cash from the machine.”

It is alleged the man remained in possession of the vehicle until January 6.

Investigations into this incident, along with other thefts were conducted by the Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch and the Branyan man was arrested at an Agnes Water property on Monday, January 9.

He is due to appear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on February 11.
