Bargara teen Wil Simmons recounts terrifying Bargara pizza robbery

A teen delivery driver has recounted the shocking moment he was held up a knifepoint (and his incredibly cool response) while delivering pizzas in a popular coastal holiday town on the long weekend.

What began as a normal night delivering pizzas took a wild turn for a Bargara teen who has recounted the shocking moment he was robbed at knifepoint.

Wil Simmons, 17, was delivering pizzas for Domino’s at the beachside town near Bundaberg on Monday night, when he was confronted by an armed man in a ski mask, pointing a knife at him on Turtle Court.

“I stepped out of the car and grabbed the pizzas from the back seat and looked to the right and about three or four metres away someone in a ski mask was coming towards me holding a knife,” he said.

“I didn’t really have time to react he was straight there.”

Keeping a cool head during the ordeal, Wil complied with the robber’s demands.

“I gave him a drink and said ‘that’s it for you’ and he just said ‘give me the pizza’ so I gave it to him and said ‘have a good night’ he said.

“Then he just jogged off and I went to the house (which the delivery had been set for) to check and they said they never ordered anything.

“I was pretty calm, I didn’t feel like anything was going to happen but if it was someone else it might have been different.”

After the robbery, Wil went back to his workplace where police were notified.

“I didn’t think it would happen in Bargara for a couple of pizzas … it was the Queen’s Birthday so it wasn’t something you would expect to happen out of the blue,” he said.

“It definitely worries me that it could happen again.”

A spokeswoman for Domino’s confirmed the knifepoint robbery had been reported and said “thankfully the team member was not physically harmed”.

‘Domino’s has procedures in place to minimise the amount of cash carried by team members or held on premises,” she said

“Our number one priority is the safety of our team members and we are currently focused on their wellbeing.

“Domino’s has offered counselling to the team member involved (and will) continue to work closely with the local police on this matter.”

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
