Sand, swimsuits and surf were all the rage during the years of the Queensland Summer Surf Girl pageants.
Female surf lifesavers would nominate their interest at their Surf Life Saving Club, with one finalist being chosen from each club.
The chosen finalist would be required to fundraise money for a before being whisked away to the Gold Coast for poolside photos and a pageant-style night of ball gowns, glitz and glamour, competing with a number of other girls for the title of Summer Surf Girl.
The pageant had been running since the 1950s, with some coastal Queensland towns even holding their own competition throughout the years.
