The $1.2 billion New Bundaberg Hospital project has reached an important milestone with the completion of a service road enabling construction vehicles to access the site.
Work on the road, an extension of Johanna Boulevard near Eggmolesse Street, commenced on December 7, 2022.
Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said “it is exciting for all of the Bundaberg and the Wide Bay region to see the current development of the New Bundaberg Hospital site well and truly underway.”

“The most recent milestone achieved has been the completion of the access road leading into the site location, which will enable the successful tenders to begin construction.
“In only a short space of time, we have seen the completion of major milestones towards construction, with the successful awarding of a major contactor being eagerly awaited.”
A decision on the successful bidder from 12 companies short-listed for the construction tender is expected to be made in April 2023 ahead of a public announcement in May.

The government expects work on the new hospital to generate 2,887 construction jobs.
According to the Queensland Health website, once completed the New Bundaberg Hospital will provide 121 extra beds and enhancements to the emergency department and acute, medical, surgical and mental health services.
The New Bundaberg Hospital is expected to be completed and operational in 2027.
