A CONTROVERSIAL tower planned for East Brisbane has been rejected by Brisbane City Council.
The 10-storey proposal from Arden Group was derided by Gabba councillor Jonathan Sri and locals as too bulky.

Plans showed the tower would cover over 55 per cent of the site’s land area, more than the 40 per cent maximum stipulated under the incoming Kangaroo Point Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan.
In a statement this afternoon, council confirmed the tower at 18 Park Ave had been rejected by the planning department due to its bulk and setbacks.
“I am pleased council’s planning team refused this application and I want to reassure residents that we will continue to protect our suburbs from unsuitable development,” Coorparoo councillor Fiona Cunningham said.
“Council received 23 submissions raising concerns about the development including traffic congestion and setbacks.”
It follows efforts by locals to have the tower stopped, which included one man spending over 500 hours building a miniature model of the development.
Cr Jonathan Sri, who joined locals in protesting the tower, hailed council’s decision as the right move.
“I think this is a really big win for the community,” Cr Sri said. “Height limits and set-backs should be non-negotiable.”
