Wynnum Plaza to be redeveloped with cinemas, more shops and apartments

A massive redevelopment of a bayside precinct has been unveiled, with apartments, office, more retail space and boutique cinemas to be included in the multi-stage plan.

CINEMAS, more retail space and eight apartment blocks have been revealed as part of a planned redevelopment of a bayside shopping centre.

Shayher Properties has submitted a development application to revamp Wynnum Plaza, which is currently home to a number of retailers, including Kmart, Woolworths and Coles.

Under the plan, a number of existing properties, including the Wynnum Tavern and Dan Murphy’s, would be relocated to new locations within the premises.

“The proposal will be delivered in stages to allow the shopping centre to remain operational

throughout construction,” the application stated.

The developer also announced plans for 184 units to be built across eight buildings.

“The residential units are located above podium level and are accessed via lobbies located at ground level public space and within the various carparking basements,” it said.

The units would be a maximum of four storeys tall.

The development application also mentions “boutique cinemas” would be added as part of the revamp.

As part of the redevelopment, the number of car parks on the site would increase from the current 1,376 to 2,151.

A local bus stop which links the centre with the nearby Wynnum railway station would be relocated to the southern side of the complex.
