Brisbane-created kids cartoon Bluey has skyrocketed to be the No. 1 show in the US ahead of several popular prime-time shows with a massive 737 million minutes viewed.

The already iconic show, which began when its creator Joe Brumm noticed a gap in the market for Aussie kids’ cartoons, started in 2018 from humble beginnings at a small studio in Fortitude Valley and has since boomed into a pop-culture masterpiece licensed by Disney and the BBC.

Bluey outranked South Park, NCIS, The Big Bang Theory and even newcomer Succession to claim its crown as the No. 1 most streamed show in the US.

The research was conducted by US-based entertainment reporting company The Hollywood Insider and media giant Nielsen and it’s the first time a Brisbane-based program has made the list.

The show is still created in Ludo Studios in the Valley and features a staff of 50 people who work to create seven minute episodes about Bluey and her family.

The show which has taken the world by storm and is now broadcast in over 60 countries, has also prompted a huge influx of global tourists to the river city.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, who regularly watches Bluey with his kids, said the worldwide phenomenon was fast becoming a major tourism drawcard.

“Bluey is a homegrown superstar who is showcasing our beautiful city, culture and outdoor lifestyle around the world,” he said.

Creator Brumm said in a recent interview that he models much of the show on his own parenting experiences as the father of two girls.
