Qld school lollipop lady reveals how much she makes

An Australian woman has revealed the staggering amount of money she makes for 90 minutes of work as a lollipop lady.

The Queensland woman, who works as school supervising crossing guard, a role she also referred to as a lollipop lady, said she makes about $32 per hour, meaning by working 90 minutes a day she makes $48.

The Brisbane woman – who has been in the role for eight years – said she works limited hours each Monday to Friday and only during school terms.

“I’m a school supervising crossing guard, so a lollipop lady,” she said while interviewed for job-matching app Getahead.

“So roughly because we only do an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon and only like Monday to Friday school terms, it’s literally around $32 an hour.”

The woman said she was inspired to take up the role after a teacher noticed her bubbly personality.

“I used to just on my days off go walking and this lady just liked my personality and she was a teacher and she said ‘look, there’s a position going – I’m getting a foot in the door’,” she said.

The woman said she loved the flexibility in terms of life-balance the role offered.

“The hours in the morning and obviously meeting and greeting people and being out in the environment,” she said.
