Showers will remain about the southeast through the rest of the week, with parts of the Gold Coast expecting falls of up to 35mm in a day and thunderstorms possible from tomorrow.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Shane Kenney said shower activity was concentrated on the southeast coast and would likely peak on Friday and Saturday.

“We’re expecting showery conditions to continue for the next several days about the southeast,” he said.

“It’s mainly across the southeast coast, but should be making it inland as far as Toowoomba and Kingaroy.

“It’s generally in that range of 5-15mm, but along the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast will be more in the 10-30mm range for the next couple of days.”

Up to 25mm of rain is forecast to fall at Surfers Paradise today, with up to 35mm set for tomorrow.

Brisbane is forecast to receive up to 10mm today and up to 15mm each day from tomorrow until Saturday, while Maroochydore will receive up to 15mm of rain today and tomorrow.

A strong wind warning has been issued today for waters off Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay.

There is a chance of a thunderstorm across the southeast from tomorrow until Saturday, however forecasts indicate the any possible thunderstorms will not be severe at this stage.

“It’s probably not until early next week it really starts to ease off, Sunday it starts but really more on Monday,” Mr Kenney said.

Meanwhile in North Queensland, possible daily isolated totals of 50-150mm are possible north of Townsville to the Lockhart River.

“It’s largely due to a trough extending across the Peninsula that’s deeming and becoming more active on Thursday and Friday,” Mr Kenney said.

“Around the Thursday to Friday, about 100-200mm is certainly possible epically around those tropical coast areas.”
