Brisbane weather: Clear skies return to sun-starved South East Queensland

You won’t believe it until you see it. Prepare to be blown away, it’s finally happening. It’s the weather bombshell South East Queensland has waited weeks to read!

Further flood events likely to continue until 'at least' the end of 2022

The Sunshine State is once again sunny! Clear skies are returning to Brisbane after weeks being obscured by rain clouds.

The Bureau of Meteorology says that this month has been significantly wetter than average, recording rain for the last 21 days straight.

“We generally have nine in total rainy days,” a Bureau spokesman said on ABC Radio.

“Today is really the last day we will see some showers, really the last of those wet days.”

While there is the potential for rain today, they are only forecast to total between one and four millimetres for most of Brisbane, although heavier falls of up to 15mm could occur closer to the bay.

Sunday will see any remaining showers leave the region as dryer conditions move into the southeast courtesy of a strong westerly, but all eyes are looking forward to next week when temperatures are predicted to plunge in Queensland’s first real taste of winter for 2022.

Temperatures as low as four are expected next Thursday morning in Ipswich, as well as Gatton and in Toowoomba, while Brisbane will reach eight degrees.

The cold temperatures are not expected to be felt on the Darling Downs though; the mercury will only drop to around eight degrees in Stanthorpe.

“Across the border in NSW, there might be a few zeros in the forecast,” the Bureau’s Helen Kirkup said.

“I think the most significant thing will be that it’ll be dry, which will make a nice change.”

Brisbane residents will also have to dig out the winter woollies, with a low temperature of eight degrees also expected on Thursday morning.

The cooler temperatures are being caused by a high pressure system moving through the southeast over the weekend, which will make way for a cold front to move up from the south.

Temperatures today will reach a maximum of 23 degrees in Brisbane and Ipswich, 22 on the Gold Coast and 18 in Toowoomba.
