One of Brisbane’s most loved pubs has been given a $1.3 million makeover, ditching its bar fly image for a family friendly vibe.

Bonny View Tavern at Bald Hills has become the Bonny View Hotel, with a team of architects and builders transforming the venue of more than 80 years with a new deck, public bar, restaurant and gaming room.

“There are a lot of people coming in to the area and renovating their own homes and we’ve noticed a bit of a change in the locals and we wanted to cater to that,” said Scott Brydson, state manager of Australian Venue Co, which own the hotel.

“We thought it was about time to have a bit of a crack and update the old girl.”

Brydson said the renovations have completely lightened and brightened the once “dark and dingy” pub, with the new public bar and deck now the perfect spot to enjoy the views to the west and a pint.

“It has a real open and modern and inviting feel to it,” he said. “We created a space that really feels warm and inviting for the locals.”

As well as the restaurant, the menu has also been upgraded with a focus on terrific parmies, as well as their signature parmi dog – a parmigiana inside a long bread roll with toppings.

And on the subject of dogs, the venue will be pooch friendly, with a special outdoor area and puppy snacks available.

The Bonny View will officially open on Thursday (August 20), with a weekend of family friendly celebrations including entertainment and free food from Friday.

The makeover is the second to be revealed in two weeks for AVC, with the hospitality group also unveiling its renovated Fitzy’s in Loganholme last week with new dining areas, outdoor terrace, sports bar and gaming area.
