Anti-Adani protester Ben Pennings warns thousands will be arrested

Thousands of people will be arrested in a protest movement likely to swamp anything Queensland has ever seen, an outspoken anti-Adani campaigner has warned.

Adani to break ground as soon as Saturday

A VOCAL greens warrior and anti-Adani activist has issued a warning in the wake of the Carmichael mine’s final approval, claiming thousands would get arrested in a bid to protect the environment.

In a statement, Galilee Blockade spokesman Ben Pennings said many Queenslanders wanted to stop the Carmichael coal project.

“Sustained nonviolent tactics like strikes, boycotts, street occupations and blockades will communicate our refusal to ever allow thermal coal mining in the Galilee Basin,” he said.

“Hundreds of Queenslanders got arrested to save Fraser Island and the Daintree Rainforest.

“Thousands will get arrested to protect our climate, the Great Barrier Reef and the Great Artesian Basin.

“Whoever gets contracted to build the Adani mine is a brave company indeed.”
