A QUEENSLAND mother is among seven people critically injured in a horrific bus crash in Spain that killed one of the passengers on board.

Burpengary resident Julie Ann Fiegert was about to head home to Australia after completing a lifelong dream to walk from France to Spain with a group of friends when the coach she was on crashed in the northwestern province of Soria on Monday afternoon.

The bus had been travelling south from well-known wine region La Rioja when it collided with the back of a lorry on the A-15 motorway near the town of Adradas, according to local media reports.

A 26-year-old woman was reportedly killed in the incident.

Ms Fiegert’s daughter Michelle Jenner said her mother was sitting next to the woman killed in the front seat of the bus when it crashed, injuring a total of 45 passengers. She was flown out in a critical condition.

“She is heavily sedated in the Burgos Hospital of Madrid. A very prestigious hospital with the highest level of surgeons,” Mrs Jenner wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for rising medical bills.

Mrs Jenner said her mother suffered several broken bones, punctured lungs and a busted spleen.

“We are thanking God that she is alive, and we want it to stay that way,” Mrs Jenner wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“Julie Ann does have travel insurance but we don’t know how long until this is going to work out. She is going to have a very very long stay in this hospital in Madrid and need multiple surgeries as well as therapies, recovery sessions and many costs to keep dad over in Spain by her side the entire time.

“I am hoping to get over to be with my mum when I know more and will be able to update everyone as much as possible.

“This is my mum ... you all know her as the giver, the one who would do anything for any of you ... she loves you all and I know you love her.”

Almost $8000 has been raised so far.
