Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles plays water boy at Sydney Sixers match for You Can

Watching a mate battle cancer has spurred Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles to support the Sony Foundation’s You Can program at the SCG, playing water boy at Wednesday night’s charity cricket match.

Chart-topping muso Reuben Styles took on the role of water boy at the Big Bash League Sydney Sixers annual cricket charity match on Wednesday night.

One half of ARIA Award-winning duo Peking Duk, Styles gave up his time to support the Sony Foundation’s You Can youth cancer program at Sydney Cricket Ground.

“Personally I have one of my best mates who has had three massive cancer tumour removal operations,” Styles told Confidential.

“I am pretty much just chuffed to be able to support something which is so close to home, having had a mate who has been dealing with cancer for most of the time I have known him.”

Styles was dubbed the “celebrity 12th man” for the match.

Players also wore special jerseys to honour young cancer patients, with money raised going towards You Can’s mission to establish a national network of youth cancer centres.

“I am full of beans,” Styles said.

“I am going to be sprinting up and down the pitch at the SCG, taking water to athletes and I am going to try and make an athlete out of myself and run as hard as I can.”
