Solomone Fangupo drops bail bid, Versace, Rolex allegedly seized in Woolgoolga MDMA raid
A man accused of large scale drug supply has withdrawn a Supreme Court bail bid, as police allege a haul of designer goods allegedly found in a raid are linked to nefarious activity.
A Versace bag, Rolex watch and thousands in cash — alongside knuckle dusters and prohibited weapons — were allegedly seized from the home of an accused large scale drug dealer.
Solomone Fangupo, 27, was arrested when police raided a Ryan Crescent, Woolgoolga property in June alongside a simultaneous raid on his brother Sione Fangupo’s home, also in Woolgoolga.
On November 11 Fangupo withdrew a Supreme Court bail review, while facing drug supply charges that could potentially lead to a maximum term of lifetime imprisonment if proven.
Among the evidence are the luxury items allegedly seized in the June raid.
Court documents reveal police allegedly seized items including a Versace bag, Louis Vuitton sunglasses, a Rolex watch, Givenchy shoes, multiple Gucci items, Dior products, gold jewellery including an SSF necklace with diamonds, and $6528.95 in cash alleged to be the proceeds of crime.
Also allegedly found were prohibited weapons — knuckle dusters and a canister of oleoresin capsicum spray.
The luxury goods alone form the basis of a charge of dealing with property proceeds of crime valued between $5000 and $100,000.
But it was a discovery at his brother’s property in a dual raid on the same day that escalated the case against him — 1485kg of MDMA.
Initially granted bail, Solomone Fangupo was rearrested after forensic DNA analysis was allegedly linked to the MDMA found, leading to a fresh charge of supply prohibited drug greater than large commercial quantity — an offence that carries a maximum life sentence if proven.
Both brothers appeared in court on Tuesday — Solomone Fangupo was in custody and not required, while Sione Fangupo, attended in person with his mother after his own successful Supreme Court bail bid.
Police prosecutor Kylie Banks told the Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday that police required more time to compile outstanding evidence, including five police statements, a crime scene expert statement, and Cellebrite access — tools used to gather evidence from mobile phones.
Solomone Fangupo faces multiple charges including supply a prohibited drug more than large commercial quantity, supply a prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, two counts of possess a prohibited drug, two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit, fail to comply with digital evidence access order direction and deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100,000 and more than $5,000.
While older brother Sione Fangupo, 28, a semi-professional football player with the Woolgoolga Seahorses, is charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited drug and one count of supplying a prohibited drug more than a commercial quantity.
No pleas have been entered at this stage.
Both men face Coffs Harbour Local Court again on December 9.
