Fair Trading warns consumers about Mos X Daily by Brent Vitiello

An ex-Married At First Sight contestant’s sea moss brand is the subject of a consumer warning from NSW Fair Trading over allegations of spoiled product – or products not being delivered at all.

A former Married At First Sight groom’s vaunted sea moss brand has been hit with complaints of spoiled product, missing orders, and unfulfilled charity donations, prompting a public warning from NSW Fair Trading.

MAFS 2022 contestant and former hospitality manager Brent Vitiello – also known as Brent Leon – is facing accusations his brand Mos X Daily would go off the grid when consumers raised complaints about “rancid” products and delayed orders.

Sea moss – also known as Irish moss or carrageenan moss – is a red algae species which is a source of vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and fibre.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Natasha Mann has warned consumers not to deal with Mos X Daily after receiving 45 complaints about his sea moss products since January 2024.

“Also, of concern to NSW Fair Trading is that Mos X Daily promotes that a portion of each sale is donated to charity ‘One Dollar One Dream’,” NSW Fair Trading said in a statement.

“To date, it has not been substantiated that the funds have been transferred from the business to the charity.”

The Daily Telegraph raised questions about the status of the charity and the business’ operations with Mr Vitiello in October 2024 after finding it was not registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

In response, Mr Vitiello said it was “not an Australian charity”, and he had been discussing the issue with the Australian Consumer Complaints Commission and NSW Fair Trading.

“Our charity isn’t required to be listed on the ACNC – as we are not an Australian charity or brand,” Mr Vitiello said at the time.

“Any charitable causes and activations completed by 1 Dollar One dream have been funded by Mos x Daily all in Timor Leste, we do not do any charitable business within Australia.”

Mr Vitiello claimed the charity had supported “hundreds of third world harvesting families”.

“It’s important to highlight this because this is the foundation of our brand and we’re extremely proud of that,” Mr Vitiello said.

Online review websites have been inundated with posts from unhappy consumers depicting exploded and allegedly rotten sea moss products they had received.

Ms Mann has warned consumers not to deal with Mos X Daily due to consumer concerns relating to prepaid online orders.

“(The concerns include) substantial delays in receiving products ordered, products not supplied, and poor quality or out of date products,” the NSW Fair Trading statement continued.

“NSW Fair Trading is concerned that consumers that order from Mos X Daily may be at financial loss.”

In October, Mr Vitiello claimed the company offered a “100% quality guarantee” — but NSW Fair Trading claims “the business ceases communication when consumers raise their concerns”.

Mr Vitiello appeared on the 2022 season of MAFS opposite bride Tamara Djordjevic.

The couple did not last beyond the reality show’s televised experiment and he was later briefly linked to fellow contestant Ella May Ding.

He was most recently in a relationship with Australian model and actor Taylor Davey.

NSW Fair Trading has urged anyone who has dealt with Mos X Daily and its website, and is not satisfied with their reaction, to lodge a complaint on their website, at a Services NSW centre, or on 13 32 20.
