Daipayan Biswas pleads guilty to reckless driving at Somersby

In a moment of sheer madness, a motorcyclist was clocked hitting 193km/h in a 70km/h zone, prompting the self-represented man in court to simply say “I have no excuse”.

A motorcyclist who clocked 193km/h in a 70km/h zone has fronted court for his reckless driving.

Daipayan Biswas, 25, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at the Gosford Local Court to speeding more than 45 km/h above the legal speed limit and driving reckless or in a dangerous manner.

Biswas, a social worker who helps people with disabilities, was driving his bike on December 14 last year when he was recorded hitting the unbelievable speeds.

Court documents state Biswas was riding a BMW S1000 motorcycle and was travelling northbound on the Old Pacific Hwy at Somersby.

“On approaching the intersection of Quarry Rd, police estimated the accused speed to be well in excess of 150km/h,” police facts state.

When Biswas was stopped by police he produced an Indian driver’s licence and returned a negative result for drugs and alcohol.

When police questioned him about his speeding first he said, “I’ve no argument sir”. When advised of his speed he stated “No, I wasn’t going that fast sir”.

According to police facts, Biswas’ speed “posed a significant danger not only to himself, but the wider community who may have been using the National Park Facilities”.

Biswas represented himself in court and said he had “no excuse” for his speeding.

Magistrate Elizabeth Ellis fined him $1200 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.

A conviction was recorded.
