Two accused drug traffickers allegedly led police on a high-speed motorway chase which ended in chaos when their car was hit by a truck.

Narjik Teerawah Newman, 35 of Lambton and Noah Kade Clark, 28 of Kooringal had their matters briefly mentioned in the Gosford Local Court on Wednesday.

Both men have been charged with traffic and drug offences.

Mr Newman did not apply for bail while Mr Clark’s bid for bail was rejected.

Police allege Mr Newman drove dangerously on the Pacific Mwy with Mr Clark as his passenger after they allegedly failed to stop at police direction on the motorway near Wyong Rd, Tuggerah on Tuesday morning about 10.30am.

Police had received reports the car had allegedly been stolen and they pursued the vehicle after it failed to stop.

However, police terminated pursuit due to the alleged dangerous nature of the driver’s actions.

A police helicopter was then deployed to monitor the pair and just before 11am the car came to a sudden halt at Somersby before a truck crashed into the rear of the vehicle.

Police allege the men ran from the vehicle, however they were subsequently arrested a short time later and taken to Gosford Police Station.

Mr Newman is alleged to be the man behind the wheel with the magistrate describing the driving offence as a “very serious police chase”.

Magistrate Kirralee Perry said she was cautious not to attribute the police chase to Mr Clark during his bail application.

The court heard Mr Clark was allegedly found with 26g of 1,4-Butanediol and an electronic device showcasing alleged drug trafficking evidence.

Mr Clark denied he was involved in the trafficking.

Ms Perry said in her view, police had a strong argument and refused bail.

Both men will appear in court at a later date.
