Psychiatrist fronts court for alleged sexual touching

A psychiatrist working on the Central Coast accused of allegedly sexually touching a patient has fronted court for the first time.

Dr Dominic Paul, 57, fronted Gosford Local Court on Thursday morning charged with one count of sexually touching another person without consent.

Paul – who resides in North Kellyville – is alleged to have sexually touched a female patient in her 30s during a consultation at a medical facility in Woy Woy last year.

After a lengthy investigation, Paul was arrested when he attended Gosford Police Station in December 23, 2024 and was subsequently charged.

He was granted conditional bail and appeared at Gosford Local Court today, where his bail was extended and he did not enter any pleas.

He is due to appear in court again on February 6.

Outside court, Paul promptly made his exit dodging questions from the media.

According to the Brisbane Waters Private Hospital website, Paul has about 20 years experience working in psychiatry across three different countries, India, UK and Australia.

“He developed a passion in specialising in mental health while working as a GP in his native India, and trained in psychiatry in the UK obtaining his MRCPsych via the Guys Kings and St Thomas in London,” the website states.

“He made Australia home in 2007 and obtained his Australian Fellowship.

“Dr Paul has a special interest in most adult psychiatry specialities including psychotic and mood disorders as well as ADHD.”

According to the website, Paul’s priorities are not only in treatment and quality of life of his patients, but also their mental health education and awareness.

The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission confirmed it has received a complaint about Dr Dominic Paul, which is currently under assessment.

“To ensure a fair process, we are unable to comment further at this time,” a spokesperson said.

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital have been contacted for comment.
