A global engineering business is advertising for local recruits to work from the new northern Australian office it opened in Darwin this month.

Wood PLC, a consulting and engineering company based in Aberdeen, Scotland, opened its Darwin office last week with a small ceremony attended by Fannie Bay MLA Laurie Zio.

It is Wood’s fifth Australian office and first in northern Australia.

Wood will initially employ about 50 personnel at its new premises at 66 Smith Street, Darwin, but is currently looking to expand its workforce to service the Territory, WA and South-East Asia.

Opportunities exist across a number of design and engineering roles including construction and commissioning, technical safety, process engineering, civil and structural and project control and management.

Based in 60 countries and with a worldwide workforce of about 35,000, Wood principal Adam Cheesman said the company was committed to developing a local workforce and investing in the region.

“Wood is currently recruiting engineers, project managers and designers to work on critical scopes to secure energy and drive the energy transition in the region,” Mr Cheesman said.

“Opening our Darwin office in Australia is a proud moment for Wood and we look forward to deepening local community, government and supply chain relationships.

“Wood has been working with Inpex and Santos in the NT for many years, delivering

maintenance and engineering services to optimise critical onshore and offshore operations.

“Our proven history in-region has seen us support important NT projects such as Tamboran’s

Northern Territory Liquified Natural Gas project and Shell’s Prelude Floating Liquified Natural Gas facility, the world’s largest floating offshore gas plant.

“Darwin will be a hub for us to provide the full suite of consulting, engineering, operations and maintenance services, enhancing delivery for existing and new clients.

“We provide exceptional professional development opportunities and are seeking talented people to join us as we enter our next phase of growth in the NT.”

The Northern Territory has a number of prospective gas projects underway including the impending arrival of Santos’ Barossa gas project and a major development at the Beetaloo Sub-Basin.

This is in addition to strong outcomes from new wells done at the Mereenie prospect in Central Australia.
