A man who was allegedly behind the wheel of a car when three passengers fell out of it on Gunn Point Beach at the weekend has fronted court in Darwin for the first time.

Lhean Doctolero was charged with driving a motor vehicle causing harm or death and recklessly endangering life and driving with low range blood alcohol content.

Two of the men who fell from the vehicle suffered minor injuries following the incident which police said happened at Gunn Point Beach about 3am, Sunday.

However, the third occupant, an 18-year-old, remains in a critical condition at Royal Darwin Hospital after suffering more serious injuries.

On Sunday, Northern Watch Commander Richard Howie said police believed one of the passengers “may have been hanging onto the side” of the vehicle.

The driver, along with another occupant, were later taken to the Palmerston Police Station where he said Doctolero failed a breath analysis test and was subsequently arrested.

He was represented by legal aid lawyer Josh Bach in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday and supported in court by his parents and younger sister.

Deputy Chief Judge Tanya Fong Lim granted Doctolero bail, but urged him to live only at his parents’ home.

“You’re not to purchase or consume alcohol or drugs that are not prescribed medications,” she said.

“You must also submit to the police station once a week, and you’re not to drive a motor vehicle.”

Doctolero will return to the Darwin Local Court on June 28.
