Outdoor retailer Anaconda has moved into the long-abandoned Palmerston Bunnings building, with the new store set to open its doors on Saturday.
The disused building on the corner of University and Roystonea avenues has been empty since August 2020 when the hardware chain moved to a new home on the Stuart Highway.
The 2200sq m store will be Anaconda’s second outlet in the Northern Territory, and is expected to employ 20 people in the Top End.
Anaconda Palmerston regional manager Mark Singleton said the new outlet would bring a significant dividend to the Top End.
“The brand new one stop adventure shop will offer an extensive product range providing local
adventurers, campers and outdoor explorers with easy access to all the gear they need for their
camping, fishing, 4WD and hiking needs,” Mr Singleton said.
“Anaconda Palmerston will bring a fresh offering to the outdoor-loving community, including all the essentials that local residents might need for their weekend adventures and getaways. “Being an Australian-owned company, Anaconda prides itself on delivering the very best for our customers whether they’re going on a camping adventure, off-road four wheel driving or heading out on the water for some fishing.”
Founded in 2004, Anaconda has enjoyed rapid growth nationally in recent years and the second NT store reflects the popularity of outdoor activities post-Covid.
Marketing manager Shane Connors said the brand fit comfortably with the Territory’s outdoor lifestyle.
“The opening of our Palmerston store is part of a really robust growth period for Anaconda at the moment, Mr Connor said.
“We saw a great demand for a store in regional Northern Territory, with a natural alignment of the community’s adventurous spirit and Anaconda’s outdoor range.
“We’re proud to engage with locals that share our passion for exploration.”
Palmerston’s new Anaconda will officially open at 10am on Saturday October 7.
As well as face painting and free products and door prizes, the first 100 arrivals will receive a $20 gift card.
