TENNANT CREEK is on the cusp of returning to its former glory as a Territory mining hub, the managing director of gold exploration company Emmerson Resources says.

Rob Bills, who is also Emmerson Resources chief executive officer, said exploration and the discovery of new gold and copper deposits was the key to revitalising Tennant Creek.

Emmerson has been exploring the Tennant Creek mineral field for more than a decade and has a track record of new discoveries through applying new technology and geological concepts.

“Our Mauretania discovery is a great example,” he said.

“Recent drilling has intersected gold beneath the known high grade gold mineralisation that will likely become the first new open pit deposit in the area.

“Hopefully, this will be a fast-tracked development and it will probably be the first such discovery that will go right through to development in Tennant Creek.”

Mr Bills said Emmerson has partnered with Tennant Consolidated Mining Group, which was establishing a central mill which would be the key to monetising and unlocking the stranded gold and copper deposits within the Tennant Creek district.

“Hopefully, we will have a processing mill in Tennant Creek by next year,” Mr Bills said. “The mill is a key part of the jigsaw in Tennant Creek. All the assets, all the resources can’t be processed without a mill.

“In addition, Emmerson has partnered with the traditional owners in striking a landmark joint venture over the Jasper Hills area, whereby the traditional owners have a direct equity, plus employment and training opportunities.

“Emmerson regard this agreement as an important milestone that builds on a strong partnership with the TO’s, and hopefully is the first of many such agreements that will share the benefits of an exciting future of exploration, mining and processing in Tennant Creek district.”
