DARWIN CBD car parking will go under the knife this week, after a Darwin Council review last year found issues with more than half of all on-street accessible parking bays.
The review of 27 city centre on-street accessible parking spaces found 18 parking spaces required improvements or relocation to more suitable nearby locations.
Acting Lord Mayor Paul Arnold said the works were largely based on feedback received from the review.

“It is extremely important that our accessible car parking spaces are fit-for-purpose and these improvements will provide users with increased safety and amenity, particularly for people who use a wheelchair,” he said.
“Nine existing accessible car parking bays will receive new kerb ramps, signs and line marking, and the remaining nine accessible parking bays will be relocated to more suitable, nearby locations.”

Construction of the parking bays is expected to be completed by the end of May this year.
