A NEW aged care development in Highfields is starting to take shape.
Earthworks for the 96-suite aged care building being built adjacent to the existing Carinity Brownesholme retirement village are complete, and civil works and site infrastructure works are continuing.
The new aged care site is stage one of a $67 million expansion of the Carinity Brownesholme seniors' community.
In the future, 84 new retirement villas will be built to complement the 61 existing independent retirement units already at the Highfields site.
Carinity Aged Care regional manager Kathy Nicholls said older residents "want to stay connected to their loved ones, families and friends".
"Carinity's approach is to integrate aged care services into our retirement lifestyle communities through in-home care and eventually more supportive residential aged care accommodation and care services," she said.
"When it is time for the additional support of aged care living, residents don't have to move away from established relationships and can maintain their close networks."
Carinity's commitment to seniors in Toowoomba and surrounding districts also includes the new Carinity Home Care Toowoomba service which supports seniors to continue living independently in their own homes and local community.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2020, Brownesholme is one of six retirement villages operated by Carinity.
Carinity, a Brisbane-based not-for-profit, also operates 11 residential aged care communities situated between Townsville and the Gold Coast.
"We are committed to enhancing the wellbeing of Queensland seniors. We believe in creating communities where people feel respected, are heard and feel a true sense of belonging," Mrs Nicholls said.
Queensland firm Paynters is building the new Highfields aged care community, the company's fourth major collaboration with Carinity in five years.
It is anticipated 96 staff will work at the new aged care community which is expected to open in mid next year.
