THE Supercars Transporter Convoy is back, and set to go ahead on Thursday.

Originally planned for August 6, the hugely popular convoy had to be postponed when Brisbane was declared a COVID-19 hotspot, forcing over 40 Supercars drivers, crew members and officials into mandatory quarantine.

Now that the BetEasy Darwin TripleCrown has been rescheduled for this weekend, the convoy has been given the all clear to go ahead – with some small changes,

The route will be as originally planned, departing Hidden Valley at 6.30pm, turning left on the Stuart Highway towards the CBD, then onto Daly Street, Mitchell Street, Knuckey Street and McMinn Street before heading onto Garramilla Boulevard and taking Tiger Brennan Drive back to Hidden Valley.

However, the Convoy will not stop in the CBD this year, and spectators are requested to spread out along the route rather than gather at the CBD.

NT Major Events chief executive Tim Watsford said the announcement was great news for disappointed Supercars enthusiasts.

“The Supercars Transporter Convoy is a fantastic spectacle that sets the scene for all the action on the track. For it to go ahead after the disappointment of having to put it on hold is great news,” Mr Watsford said.

“In line with physical distancing guidelines, we urge spectators to spread out to watch the procession rather than gather in large groups.

“We have plenty of space up here, so no one will miss out.”
